Francisco Infante-Arana (b. 1943, Vasilyevka, Saratov Region) is a Russian artist, classic of kinetic art and land art, photographer, and theorist. He is an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts (2013), Merited Artist of the Russian Federation (1999), and academician of the Royal Academy of Arts in Cadiz (Spain, 2010). Since 1968, he has worked in collaboration with his wife, Nonna Goryunova. From 1956 to 1962, he studied at the Moscow Secondary Art School affiliated with the Surikov Institute. From 1962 to 1966, he attended the Monumental Painting Faculty at the Moscow Higher School of Applied Arts (formerly Stroganov). From 1962 to 1964, he was a member of the Society of Geometric Direction artists. From 1962 to 1968, he actively participated in the "Movement" group, which created kinetic objects and abstract panels. Since 1968, he began creating installations in natural environments. In 1970, he founded and joined the "Argo" group (Author's Working Group). Since 1976, he has produced "artifacts" series—geometric constructions made of mirrors and lightweight materials interacting with landscapes, which he documents photographically. His artifacts synthesize nature and art, referencing the Russian avant-garde (Malevich, Tatlin). He participated in documenta 4 (Kassel, 1968), the Venice Biennale (1977), and the Moscow Biennale. He held personal and group projects at the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. He won the State Prize of the Russian Federation in Fine Arts (1996). In the 2020s, retrospectives took place at MMOMA and abroad.
