The book by art historian David Joselit is dedicated to the art of the USA of the second half of the 20th - early 21st century, when American artists took leading positions in the world and set the main directions of innovative research in painting (abstract expressionism, pop art), sculpture (minimalism), performance, installation and other media. The author offers a historical overview of this period, selecting and grouping diverse material around one key idea — artists’ rethinking of the experience of privacy and publicity in the new social conditions created by consumer society.
